Hyeronime ‘Bouk’ Tshilengi started growing traditional African vegetables in his backyard to provide his family with familiar flavours as they settled in Australia, after fleeing the Democratic Republic of Congo in 2015. With demand growing for his produce including cassava leaves, sour leaves, sweet potato leaves and bitter berries, Bouk now leases an urban farm in Western Sydney Parklands, selling direct from his farm gate and continuing to provide his community with a connection to their culture every day.
