Powerhouse wants you and your imagination!
If you're between 4 and 12 years old and live in Western Sydney, we want you to be part of The Dark a super cool new exhibition that will open at Powerhouse Parramatta.
What's this all about?
We’re searching for young storytellers with big imaginations to step into extraordinary worlds. One hundred of you will be selected to have your objects and stories showcased in The Dark exhibition for three years.
Want to take part?
It's easy! Just follow these simple steps:
- Choose a special object you own and love.
- Get a photo of yourself with your object.
- Tell us why it's special or meaningful to you.
- Draw a picture or write a short story inspired by or about your object.
If your object is selected, you will be one of the first 100 people to visit the exhibition and museum when it opens in 2026.

It's essential that your parent or carer reads all the instructions and conditions before filling out the entry form. To be considered for selection you must comply with all entry instructions and conditions.

Instructions and Conditions
What you'll need to submit:
- Choose a special object you own and love.
- Take a photo of yourself with your object.
- Tell us about your object and why it is special to you.
- Create a short story or drawing inspired by your object.
- To enter, simply submit your photo along with your story or drawing.
Eligibility
- Children aged 4–12 years who live in Western Sydney: Blacktown, Blue Mountains, Camden, Campbelltown, Canterbury-Bankstown, Cumberland, Fairfield, Hawkesbury, Liverpool, Parramatta, Penrith, The Hills Shire and Wollondilly.
- If selected, your object will be safely held by Powerhouse and on display at Powerhouse Parramatta from the end of 2026 for three years.
- At the end of the exhibition, Powerhouse will arrange for you to collect your object from Powerhouse Parramatta.
Important things to know:
- If you're selected, we'll contact you via email by 20 February 2026.
- If you don't hear from us, it just means you weren't selected this time. But we loved seeing your entry!
- Please do not send your object yet. We'll let you know how to deliver it in person only (not by post).
- If you're selected, you will be interviewed on camera, and your interview might even feature in the exhibition.
- A special online form (web portal) will be available to enter your details and upload your files which can be found here.
- Your object should be small enough to carry easily.
- Maximum object dimensions: 75cm tall x 70cm wide x 35cm deep
