Maximalist Identities | Hassan Hajjaj and Jane Duru
Artist Hassan Hajjaj will discuss his maximalist approach to photographic practice with R/GA’s associate creative director Jane Duru. Hajjaj’s work sits at the intersection of performance and cultural identity. He pushes the boundaries of portraiture across art, design and cultural commentary, championing local perspectives through social encounters, community-building, and challenging conventional notions of representation.

Hassan Hajjaj is a Moroccan-British artist, renowned for his captivating and vibrant works that merge contemporary art, fashion and cultural identity. Hajjaj’s diverse background greatly influences his work, which reflects a fusion of North African tradition and Western popular culture. His work is held in the permanent collections of the Brooklyn Museum, the British Museum and the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi. In 2020, Hajjaj was commissioned by Vogue to photograph Billie Eilish, dressed in Hajjaj’s clothing label, Andy Wahloo.
Jane Duru is associate creative director at R/GA Australia. Whether it’s newly minted start-ups or larger organisations, Duru’s passion for bringing brand language to life has seen her work recognised and awarded by D&AD & AGDA awards, among others. She’s worked with global companies such as Nike and Google, helped shape brands across APAC, including We are Warriors, Museum of Chinese in Australia, MECCA and A-Leagues.
