Southern Sky Astrophotography
Southern Sky Astrophotography, is an exhibition of celestial photography showcasing the finalists of the 22nd annual David Malin Awards.
Sydney Observatory has a proud tradition of photography and astronomy. Observatory Hill has long been a place for people to connect with, observe, understand and tell stories about Sky Country, starting with the Gadigal who carved knowledge about Sky and Sea Country into local rock. Henry Chamberlain Russell, the resident Government Astronomer, began photographing the sky from Sydney Observatory in the early 1870s.
This tradition of photographic observation continues today in Southern Sky Astrophotography. The theme for the 2025 competition is People and Sky.
The David Malin Awards are presented by the Central West Astronomical Society, sponsored by CSIRO Space and Astronomy. Touring exhibition supported by Powerhouse.
