Bharti Kher: Tree of Life

Powerhouse has commissioned internationally acclaimed British Indian artist Bharti Kher to create a major new public artwork at the entrance to Powerhouse Parramatta. Born in London, England in 1969 and now based in New Delhi, India, Kher’s practice spans painting, sculpture and installation, exploring ancient narratives and our relationship to the world around us.
Standing 7 metres high, Tree of Life is a monumental bronze sculpture that reimagines the sacred tree of Indian mythology, a symbol of divine protection. Conceived as a spirit work, the heads of ancestors are layered to form a towering totem, creating a point of connection between the living and spiritual worlds.
The work pays tribute to Parramatta’s diverse Asian community while reflecting on shared histories and culture.
