A selection of Clement Meadmore’s early industrial design pieces is now on display at Powerhouse Castle Hill.
Clement Meadmore (1929–2005) played a leading role in shaping mid-century Australian design and established himself as a central figure in Melbourne’s postwar art, design and architecture scene. His 1953 steel and cord chair became a staple for architects seeking sculptural forms to complement modern open-plan homes.
Meadmore went on to become an internationally successful sculptor in the 1960s, known for creating large-scale minimalist abstract forms.
This display draws from the recently acquired Harris/Atkins Collection, carefully assembled over many years by Melbourne artists Peter Atkins and Dana Harris.
