Research and Conservation

Powerhouse Castle Hill is the storehouse for the Powerhouse Collection supporting research and conservation, presenting exhibitions and programs.

For the first time in the museum's 140 year history, the entire collection of more than half a million objects of national and international significance will be housed in the one location.

Powerhouse Collection

Powerhouse is custodian to more than half a million objects of national and international significance. The Powerhouse Collection is considered one of the finest and most diverse collections in the world.

It includes the Powerhouse Archives comprised of hundreds of Collected Archives and the Powerhouse Institutional Archives, which date from 1880.

'To this end it is intended to collect together typical collections of all materials of economic value belonging to the animal, vegetable, and mineral kingdoms, from raw materials through the various stages of manufacture to the final product or finished article ready to use'

Powerhouse Castle Hill Expansion

Powerhouse Castle Hill has been delivered through a partnership between Create NSW, NSW Public Works and the Powerhouse. Designed by Lahznimmo Architects and built by Taylor Construction.
