Engineering Studio
In this 3-day workshop facilitated by Education Ethos, high school learners in Years 7–9 (ages 12–15) will build a working computer entirely from scratch – using logic chips, wires and LEDs – while uncovering the ethics behind modern technology.
Drawing inspiration from the Powerhouse Collection, learners will explore how computers are engineered at every layer, investigating the environmental and human impacts of how technology is made, used and discarded.
Learners will trace global supply chains, investigate e-waste, debate emerging innovations and calculate their own digital footprint to understand the real-world consequences of computing decisions.
The workshop culminates in a design challenge, where learners redesign their computers for sustainability and present their ideas for a more responsible technological future.
Generously supported by the Sir William Tyree Foundation.
