Aero Engineering (12–15)
In this hands-on STEM workshop, learners aged 12–15 will explore the science, history and future possibilities of flight, directly engaging with aircraft, flying machines and objects from the Powerhouse Collection at Castle Hill.
Participants will investigate wing shapes, aerofoils, propulsion systems and control surfaces through historical and contemporary aircraft, extending their understanding through aerodynamic concepts including lift, drag, stability, manoeuvrability and flight performance.
Learners will examine how engineering principles, technological innovation and ideas inspired by the natural world influence the development and optimisation of flying systems. Learners will work collaboratively to conceptualise, prototype, test, analyse and refine their own whimsical and experimental flying machine.
