Powerhouse Castle Hill presents a free family day of demonstrations, talks and hands-on activities focused on themes of Trace. Experience objects from the Powerhouse science collection, see our Mars Rover in action, get making with creative activities that connect with technology and innovation on display at Castle Hill.

Program

Rubik’s Cube Challenge Drop-in 10am–4pm
Meet champion Speed Cuber Fiona Wang. 

DrawBots Drop-in 10am-4pm
Families will have the chance to experiment and play with our DrawBots. DrawBots are motorised drawing machines which use weights and vibrations to create mesmerising one-of-a-kind drawings.

OzGrav Drop-in 10.30am-3.30pm
Take a trip into the solar system and beyond using virtual reality. Visitors are guided by experienced scientists to the planets, stars, and far-reaching galaxies through OzGrav’s VR system.

Code-a-pillar and mBotWorkshop Drop-in 10.30am-3.30pm
Be introduced to the basics of robotics coding using Code-a-pillar and mBot. Limited space available.

Mars Rover Demo Demonstrations at 10.30am, 11.30am, 1.30pm and 2.30pm
Meet the Powerhouse technicians who built the Curiosity Mars Rover replica from the Powerhouse collection. Engineers will discuss autonomous robotics, the design process and technology involved in this robot, and the current missions exploring Mars.

Australian Innovations AUSLAN Tour 11am (30mins) 
Join your Auslan interpreter guide on a 30-minute tour and discover the stories behind some of our objects related toAustralian-made innovations including the life-saving reel, pedestrian button and a robotic cow that have transformed industries.
