Residencies are opportunities to engage with the Powerhouse Collection, partner with industry, collaborate with community and support creative practice.

Powerhouse Ultimo Residents

The Powerhouse NSW Creative Industries Residency Program includes subsidised work space at Powerhouse Ultimo and opportunities to collaborate with the museum team.

Galang Residents

The Galang Residency Program, established in partnership with the Cité internationale des artsExternal link icon, will support two Australian based First Nations creatives to undertake a 12-week fully subsidised residency in Paris, hosted by the Cité internationale des arts. The program is open to First Nations creatives and cultural practitioners working across a range of disciplines.

Daniel Browning

A Bundjalung, Kullilli ane South Sea Islander man who grew up on the far north coast of New South Wales, Daniel Browning is an award-winning journalist, radio broadcaster, documentary maker, sound artist and writer. He is currently Editor Indigenous Radio with the ABC overseeing Speaking Out and Awaye! and presents ABC Radio National podcast The Art Show. Browning is also a widely published freelance writer, inaugural guest editor of Artlink Indigenous and the curator of Blak Box, a specially designed sound pavilion commissioned by Urban Theatre Projects to amplify the voices of First Nations storytellers, language custodians and artists working in spoken word, performance and music.

Jayne Christian

Jayne Christian is a Baramadagal woman of the Reid/Goldspink family belonging to the Dharug Nation. Jayne chairs the Parramatta City Council First Nations Advisory Group and is an Ambassador for the Treaty Council. Jayne has practiced as a social justice lawyer for ten years, with a focus on working with Aboriginal Communities across NSW. Jayne belongs to the weaving communities in both Wagga Wagga and Western Sydney, is a member of Parramatta Weaving Garden Collective and practices traditional and contemporary styles of weaving and dyeing.

Powerhouse Castle Hill Residents

The Creative Residency Program at Powerhouse Castle Hill offers residents fully subsidised studio space to undertake self-directed research and create new work. Working with Parramatta Artists’ PAS Open, Powerhouse hosted two artists in 2022 who collaborated with the Powerhouse team and engaged with the Powerhouse Collection.

Sydney Observatory Residents

The Sydney Observatory Residency Program invites practitioners across scientific and creative disciplines to create new work or research inspired by Sky Country, the Observatory’s history, Powerhouse Collection, astronomy and meteorology. Adding to the history of research on the site has inspired generations of scholars, scientists and artists.
