At the centre is a locally-led marine protected area with a no-take zone, created to safeguard ocean life for future generations. As the villagers navigate the fragile balance between conservation and daily survival, their voices reveal deep cultural ties to the ocean and the challenges of sustainable fishing in a changing world.

In the Solomon Islands, a woman named Millicent Barty is searching for ways to keep her culture alive. Through her design practice, Millicent translates complex international projects – development, infrastructure, climate adaptation – into local language and imagery, making sure her community understands the decisions being made in their name. It’s a modern skill rooted in old ways of thinking: communication through symbol, colour and story. We follow Millicent as she moves through her world – by boat across the lagoon, through thick jungle paths, into remote hamlets where old customs are fading.
