Powerhouse Young Writers' Challenge with Andy Griffiths — For Schools
Are you the next Andy Griffiths? Do you have a story to tell? Write a creative story that features an object selected by Andy for the Powerhouse Materials: Paper exhibition.
NSW Primary Schools are warmly invited to participate in the Young Writers' Challenge by visiting the Powerhouse Materials: Paper exhibition and submitting a response to the following prompt:
Produce a creative story that features one (or more) of the objects selected by Andy Griffiths for the exhibition.
Your story can include words and pictures, as well as other text types such as comic strips, lists, diagrams and maps. Your story must be two single-sided A4 pages or less.
For inspiration from Andy, here are three Super Short Stories he wrote for other objects in the exhibition.
The opportunities involved in the Challenge for schools include:
- A teacher's professional development day at Powerhouse Castle Hill on Monday 24 November with Andy Griffiths. This day will also feature a Story Factory teacher workshop.
- A package of classroom resources for teachers to deliver at school during Term 4.
- A full-day creative writing excursion for students at Powerhouse Castle Hill between 28 November and 12 December. These workshops will be co-designed by Story Factory.
All writers who have submitted will be invited to an after-school celebration of creative writing at Powerhouse Castle Hill with Andy on Friday 6 March 2026.
