Family Day: Textiles
Powerhouse Castle Hill presents a free day of demonstrations, guided workshops, tours and drop-in hands-on activities focusing on textiles in the Powerhouse Collection, to inspire people of all ages.
Program
Make a Badge 10am–4pm
Inspired by political badges in the Powerhouse Collection, use scraps of fabric to make a badge that promotes change you would like to see in the world.
Ribbon Weaving 10am–4pm
Create patterns with ribbons and string and contribute to a collective weaving textile.
Quilting Squares with Artist Charles Levi 10.30–3.30pm
Join textile artist Charles Levi and share your story or a story of someone you care for using needle and thread. This workshop is inspired by the Australian AIDS Memorial Quilts collection at Powerhouse.
Paper People Fashion 10am–4pm
Using colourful and textured paper, design bold outfits for 2D paper people.
Mystery Object Challenge 10.30am, 11.30am, 1.30pm, 2.30pm
Calling all budding historians, archaeologists and those with curious minds. Drop-in and test your sleuthing skills in this family friendly activity to see if you can work out what the historic mystery objects are.
Fashionable Trends Tour 11am, 1pm, 3pm
Discover Powerhouse Collection items that have influenced fashion, design, furniture and lifestyle. How many of these trends do you remember, or wish to forget?
