A rectangular glazed tile is painted in cobalt-blue, turquoise, manganese and pink with a black outline on a white ground and was made for the decoration of the wall of an internal reception hall, the external wall of a castle or the house of an aristocratic Qajar family.

Collection Conversations is a free program that brings the Powerhouse Collection to life through storytelling led by Powerhouse Volunteers. Each talk invites audiences to discover objects in new and meaningful ways.

From ancient poetry to finely crafted objects, Powerhouse Volunteers explore how Persian culture honours renewal and the arrival of spring.

Bed hanging made of cream-coloured hand spun and hand woven cotton calico. The design is of the Tree of Life and has been hand painted using kalamkari penwork and plant dyeing with mordants. The design depicts a large central tree populated with birds, trailing flowers and leaves. The foothills below the tree show intricate details of deer, scenery and two peacocks. The tree borders depict small trees, flowers and more rambling deer. — 2/3

Banknote of one Toman from the Nasseri period, Qajar era. On the obverse of this banknote the portrait of the king was printed on the left, and the national emblem of the lion and sun as a watermark on the right side, while in Persian script "The Imperial Bank of Persia" (Bank-e Shahanshahi-ye Iran) was printed at the top and the value of the banknote in words (Farsi) in the middle and in figures at each of the four corners. On the reverse, "The Imperial Bank of Persia" was printed at the top, the value of the banknote in words (English) in the middle and in figures at each of the four corners. — 3/3
