This free annual forum is an opportunity for Regional and Western Sydney museums to network, share stories and be inspired by current topics relevant to the regional collecting sector. The forum is held in partnership with Museums & Galleries of NSW and Regional Arts NSW.

This year’s forum presentations highlight the efforts of regional museums to achieve sustainability through focusing on various strategies: whether that be through best practice collection management, fundraising, engaging museum volunteers, or working on sustainable collection practices.

Program

START TIME 9am

SESSIONS 1–3 9.20am
An on-site forum ticket includes the full-day's schedule and an elective topic for the afternoon breakout session.

BREAKOUT SESSION 2–2.30pm
For those attending on-site, please select only one of the four breakout sessions listed below:

1. Powerhouse Workshop Tour
Join Powerhouse production workshop manager Penny Angrick for a behind-the-scenes tour of the Powerhouse workshop. Angrick will give insight into how the workshop teams prepare, build and install exhibitions. She will discuss different considerations around materials, appropriate exhibition tools and techniques used in exhibition construction.

2. Invisible Mannequins
There is always a challenge finding mannequins to mount historical dress. In this presentation, Suzanne Chee will explain how to make an invisible mannequin using Fosshape, a unique felt-like fabric that can be used to create your own mannequins for displaying garments and fashion accessories.

3. 1001 Remarkable Objects Exhibition Tour
Join Powerhouse curator Eva Czernis-Ryl for a 30-minute tour of 1001 Remarkable Objects, a new exhibition, led by Leo Schofield AM. This major exhibition features 25 individual rooms, presenting an unexpected juxtaposition of collection objects that will lead us on a journey across time and memory.

4. A Line A Web A World Exhibition Tour
Join Powerhouse senior exhibition designer, Hugh O’Connor for a 30-minute tour of the exhibition A Line A Web A World. This exhibition is the first in-depth look at drawings in the Powerhouse Collection and will focus on the question of why we draw. O’Connor will provide an overview of his exhibition design.
